Wordle: I Love Media

//I’m all about Astral Media’s attempt to infuse and promote Canadian creativity through OOH using “Carte Blanche” (great site), a contest persuading creative’s to produce an ad for any brand of choice. If chosen, your work will end  up outdoors and you’ll win a paid trip to Cannes for the International Advertising Festival. I think as a creative, if I were to jump on board, the most exciting part of the project is not having the often restrictive boundaries on the creation of the ad and submission process. I’m not actively promoting for Astral but the initiative is worthwhile, register here.

Video: Nada Spring / Summer 2010 Collection (non-3D)

// The craze and lure of 3D has now reached the fashion industry, blurring the lines between technology and design. Canadian Nada Shepherd, CD for the NADA collection showcases her fall 2010 work in a three dimensional short film called “‘Future Fashion/Fashion Future” here. I included the 2D version that Fashion Television offered up (for those without quicktime) here. The collection is dark, gladiatoresque, and shows the “fembots” as embodying strength, vitality and confidence.

    Paraolympics

// BBDO Toronto went pro bono with statements like, strong. powerful. bold and confident, for the Canadian Paralympic Committee’s new ad campaign. Good design sense and direct messaging with impact. The head of the Canadian Paralympic Committee says, “The ads represents the beginning of a new era for the paralympic movement in Canada. It has the opportunity to lift up the disabled community…to educate and inform the general public about disabled athletes.” So it does.

//I came across this lovely scapbook of artistic images WITHOUT ads! The site is called http://thisisnthappiness.com (Technorati ranked it a top 1k blog). The artistic enthusiast (Peter Nidzgorski) also adds that if you’re in contact to complain about using imagery without a credit, the photo caption does in fact link to where it was sourced, scooped and admired.  The ‘Thought Experiment’ and ‘La Canción De La Sirena’ are my favorite. I also love their facebook page, here.

// The Olympics are over but the Vancouver 2010 keepsake’s are still kicking around. I’m not going to to be original, I admit that my favorite token as a memory of this year’s events is HBC’s red mittens, even Oprah gave away 300 pairs to her audience, cute. Go figure, it was HBC president and chief executive officer, Jeffrey Sherman, an American, who suggested them. Top sponsors included: Petro-Canada (Olympic-branded drinking glasses), McDonalds, Air Canada (the Boeing 7-7-7 showcased official Olympic patterns and symbols), Samsung, Bell, General Electric, Royal Bank of Canada, Coca-Cola, VISA, Panasonic, RONA and Chevrolet.
