// How can you not like the tender and spritely face of the iconic Hello Kitty brand? I do. Those defined whiskers and beady but cutsie innocent eyes…the MAC Cosmetics’ long long-awaited Hello Kitty collaboration is here, in video. Collection debuted in America on 12-FEB-09. It was reported that the girlicious brand HK has insanely loyal fans of all ages and religions, so when the brands joined together in top creative and intellectual fashion, consumers went ballistic with excitement.

// The Hulger Pappa phone was a creation out of Montreal design company Furni in combo with Hulger. The phone can even connect to VoIP services via (MAC or PC) USB ports. Now if they can only design one in white… Compliments of Stimulant.

// Hmmm, maybe I will. $25,000 in cash, the title as Canada’s Dorito Guru and a % of its sales is riding Fito Lay’s latest Canadian campaign involving user generated submissions to engage audiences. Doritos launched a new flavour with a secret recipe and have invited people to think of a name to match it in the Doritos Guru Contest. The idea makers with creativity in their bones have to upload a 30 sec vid on the flavour.

    cheetos

// Can’t stand complainers..I’m just saying. So, in this spirit, I will have to complain and say that I’m wiped and this post will short & sweet (inclusive with a fab photo of cheetos above). The snack brand hooked up with Ashton Kutcher to fund a web-series around a Hollywood production company, with AK as the boss (another surprise). It was the 1st sponsored series to be distributed through a Facebook app, called FunSpace (I posted info about his series earlier). The idea was that Cheetos could engage with young people a la 18-35 in an environment where they were hanging out already, with the hope that it generated further conversations. Yep, makes sense but how many will be engaged?

// From San Fran in Cali (not to be confused with our random cool Canadian site: http://www.stimulantonline.ca) is posting some amazing stuff recently, including news on the SXSW Interactive 2009, entitled Brave NUI World: The Fearless Future of Device Interaction.  ”SXSW Interactive is about what is happening now, and what’s happening now is different than what was happening a year ago… An amorphous name for an amorphous concept.” John Gruber, daringfireball.net

    moma

NYC’s MoMa (museum of modern art) was in need of boosting memberships so they increased their awareness from commuters going to Manhattan from Brooklyn. The museum took over the Atlantic Avenue/Pacific Street subway station with art.

hours// A similar campaign ran at the National Gallery in the UK in association with Hewlett-Packard, MoMa replaced every ad space with reproductions of work from its permanent collection.

    vibe

Vibe has done us all proud, I think. At least for attempting to avoid layoffs by implementing a 4 day work week for employees in addition to a pay and circulation (800,000 to 600,000) cut. Yes, it will still sting, but by merging their print & digital editorial ops the mag may stay alive…the publication is reconfiguring itself during a recession and in a new media dig age.
Steve Aaron, CEO of Vibe Media Group says, “Based on the financial climate and based on what’s going on, we needed to make a tough decision. We decided not to follow the old-school textbook of restructuring and instead look for ways to keep the talent in place.”

Keyshia Cole is covering this month’s Vibe, the style issue (hitting news stands Feb 17th). Thanks AdAge!
