    Today, BBDO Worldwide has lost its hold on the Pepsi-Cola brand in North America to two Omnicom Group siblings. The beverage named TBWA/Chiat/Day in Calif, communications agency for the Pepsi brand in the U.S. The agency already has responsibility for PepsiCo’s Gatorade label and will now handle advertising duties for the trademark.

    “We decided to appoint TBWA/Chiat/Day to refresh Pepsi’s communication across multiple consumer touch-points and to reinvigorate Pepsi’s legacy of leading-edge advertising,” said Dave Burwick, chief marketing officer, PepsiCo North America Beverages, in a statement.

    Pepsi also tapped Arnell Group, which created Pepsi’s much-talked about new logo, as its design shop. Arnell will be responsible for brand identity and packaging innovation for Pepsi. The agency already handles PepsiCo’s SoBe brand.

    The Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival is adding PR to the mix for 2009!

    I am quite pleased about this news.

    The dubbed’the world’s most prestigious advertising awards show’ has introduced a public relations competition for the 56th annual festival to “honour the creative use of reputation management.”

    Lord Tim Bell, chairman of Chime Communications, will chair the PR jury with the inaugural PR Lions handed out on Monday, June 22, alongside the Direct and Promo Lions.

    “Launching PR at Cannes has been on our radar for quite a while, and as with any new category we introduce, it takes time to prepare the standard we expect and [the standard that] is expected of us,” said Philip Thomas, festival CEO, in a release. “The time is now right, and we are extremely honoured to have Lord Tim Bell chair the first PR Lions jury.”

    Categories for the PR competition will include:
    -Sector-related PR
    -Product & service
    -Technique

    Entries rewarded for:

    -Strategy
    -Creativity
    -Originality
    -Execution
    -Results

    Bell said he was “honoured” to chair the first ever PR jury. “This new category will greatly enhance the celebration of communications that is Cannes Lions and will further elevate the recognition of reputation management within our industry.”
